The Australian Coat of Arms shows wattle branches fanned out (like a lyrebird) under the kangaroo and emu. The wattle was introduced to the Coat of Arms in 1913 and represents strength, unity and remembrance. The yellow and green of Wattles is the green and gold of our national identity.
Spike Wattle flowers. The cylindrical flowerheads and sharp-pointed leaves make it easy to identify this wattle. It grows in part shade in a variety of soil types.
